LAWRENCE - As the grass turns green and warmer temperatures fill the air, it means it’s time to mark those calendars for the upcoming spring Regional Roundtable.
Regional Roundtables are sponsored by the Northern New York Library Network (NNYLN) based out of Potsdam, in conjunction with the Documentary Heritage Program.
The St. Lawrence-Franklin Spring Regional Roundtable will be held Saturday, May 17, 2008 at the Lawrence Town Hall. The topic of discussion will be "Interviewing & Oral History" and will run from 9:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. The facilitator for the day will be Jill Breit, Folklorist and Director of Traditional Arts in Upstate New York.
Ms. Breit will discuss how to perform interviews and oral histories. Everyone has a story to tell, but they are often at a loss as to how to capture that story. Participants will find out how to do oral histories, get recommendations on equipment to use, and find out what to do with the oral histories once they have been collected. The Roundtable will end with a tour of the Lawrence Town Historian's Office.
There is no fee to attend the Roundtable, but advance registration through the NNYLN is required. To sign-up, contact the Network at 315-265-1119, or sign-up online at www.nnyln.org and click on "Classes & Facilities." For more information on the event, contact St. Lawrence County Historical Association Director Trent Trulock at 315-386-8133.
