Phase I Of The Plattsburgh Press-Republican Added To Historical Newspapers Site

PLATTSBURGH - The first of three phases to bring 61 years of history from the Plattsburgh Press-Republican online has been completed.

Issues spanning 1959-1992 completes the first phase, which totals 270,000 pages. They have been added to the Northern New York Historical Newspapers website, available free of charge at http://news.nnyln.net. The entire site currently consists of more than 900,000 pages from 26 newspapers.

The Northern New York Historical Newspapers are provided by the Northern New York Library Network based in Potsdam, to enhance access to the region’s unique local history.

NNYLN Executive Director John Hammond explained phase I of the process for the Plattsburgh Press-Republican began over the summer of 2007. Phase II will include issues from 1931-1942, and Phase III will include issues from 1943-1958. All three phases are expected to be completed by late spring of 2008.

The Plattsburgh Press-Republican joins the following newspapers on the Northern New York Historical Newspapers website: Adirondack Record-Elizabethtown Post, Akwesasne Indian Time, Canton Commercial Advertiser, Cardinal Points of SUNY Plattsburgh, Chateaugay Journal & Chateaugay Record, Elizabethtown Post, Essex County Republican, Fort Covington Sun, Fulton Patriot, Gouverneur Tribune-Press and others, Lake Placid News, Lowville Journal & Republican, Malone Farmer, Malone Franklin Gazette, North Country Catholic, Ogdensburg Advance and Ogdensburg Advance-News, Oswegonian of SUNY Oswego, Plattsburgh Republican, Plattsburgh Sentinel, Potsdam Herald-Recorder, Potsdam St. Lawrence Herald, St. Regis Falls Adirondack News, Saranac Lake Adirondack Daily Enterprise, Ticonderoga Sentinel, and Watertown Herald.
