Tuesday, January 1, 2008 - The NNY Library Network office will be closed in observance of New Year’s Day.

Tuesday, January 15, 2008 - "Microsoft Excel for Beginners" will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the NNYLN in Potsdam. The cost is $15.00 for library staff, and $59.95 for all others. Lunch is included.

Thursday, January 17, 2008 - The Winter Webinar: Selecting Blogging Software, will be held from 2:15-3:45 p.m. on your desktop computer. There is not fee to participate, but registration is necessary.

Monday, January 21, 2008 - The NNY Library Network office will be closed in observance of the Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday.

Friday, January 25, 2008 - "Introduction to Access" will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the NNYLN in Potsdam. The cost is $15.00 for library staff, and $59.95 for all others. Lunch is included.

CE Needs Assessment 2007

Thanks to the 72 NNYLN member library staff who responded to the Network’s Continuing Education Committee’s online needs assessment. The top class topics for the following areas were:

  • Human Resources: 1) Managing or eliminating unacceptable behavior; 2) How to excel at managing and supervising people.

  • Library Management: 1) Marketing library services; 2) Redesigning library space.

  • Library Technology: 1) Web communications: blogging, RSS, podcasting, etc.; 2) Handheld technology.

  • Digitization: 1) Scanning technology; 2) Copyright.

  • Library Skills: 1) Cataloging; 1) Supervising student workers; 2) Serials management.

  • Microsoft Office Training: 1) Intermediate Access; 2) Publisher; 2) Intermediate Excel.

  • Professional Development: 1) Conflict management; 2) Communication skills.

The Network appreciates this feedback and has begun planning classes in these areas.
