Professional Development Assistance Is Available

The Northern New York Library Network’s Professional Development Program provides assistance to the staff of member libraries in continuing professional development. The program provides stipends that enable staff to attend conferences, seminars, workshops and other educational activities which are not available locally and for which funds might not otherwise be available.

Recent successful applicants have included:

Inger Curth, Library Director, Jefferson Community College, who attended the 2007 IDS Conference in July 2007.

Regan DeFranza, Consultant, North Country Library System, who attended "Bookbinding for Teachers" in July 2007.

Michelle Parry, ILL Librarian, SUNY Oswego, who attended the 2007 Annual Conference of the American Library Association.

Ken Wells, Automation Coordinator, Jefferson Community College, who attended the 2007 Annual Conference of the New York Library Assistants Association.

Debra Kimok, Special Collections Librarian, SUNY Plattsburgh, who attended the National Conference of the Association of College and Research Librarians.

Connie Holberg, Coordinator of Reference Services and Special Collections, Jefferson Community College, who attended the 2007 SUNY Librarians conference.

Each of these successful applicants completed the application available online at www.nnyln.org/profdev.php

Applications are read by a group of previous recipients and stipends are paid on a reimbursement basis.

CE Notifications

Library staff members are encouraged to check the NNYLN’s website (www.nnyln.org) for complete and accurate updates on all Continuing Education classes. They are also encouraged to open Continuing Education class announcements that are sent to them via email.

Library staff personnel who are not currently receiving emailed Continuing Education class announcements and would like to, are asked to send their names and email addresses to Pamela Ouimet.

By checking the web, library staff will have the most up-to-date information available, and can avoid the notification delays that occasionally occur in the delivery of class fliers sent via bulk mail.
