NNYLN To Host Writing Competition

In the coming weeks the Northern New York Library Network will be releasing information and details on a new competition it will be hosting.

The purpose of the "Researching the North Country Writing Competition" will be to encourage original research concerning the people places and institutions of Northern New York.

Participants will be particularly encouraged to make use of the collections of libraries and archives in the region as primary resource materials.

Submittals must represent original, primary research concerning historical events, persons, institutions, or organizations from any of the following counties: Clinton, Essex, Franklin, Jefferson, Lewis, Oswego, or St. Lawrence.

There will also be cash awards to the first and second place winners.

Be on the look-out for more information on the competition to be included in upcoming issues of Points North, as well as on the Network’s website!

"Disaster" Forms Can Now Be Filled Out On-Line

Libraries and repositories that have been putting off working on their Disaster Manuals because they didn’t want to print out the forms and hand type in all the information, now have a new alternative.

All of the forms included with the "In the Face of Disaster" manual found at www.nnyln.org/faceofdisaster/main.html can now be filled in right on-line.

The forms are still available in the standard HTML version, where they can be printed out and filled in by hand. But they are now also available in PDF format.

This newest format will allow institutions to completed the forms on-line, and then print out the filled in forms.

The completed pages may also be saved as a PDF file.
