A Look Inside The NNYLN’s 42nd Annual Meeting

  • Newly elected board members are Steve Bolton of NCLS, and Ewa Jankowska of CEFLS. Their terms begin July 1, 2007. Outgoing board members recognized for their years of dedicated service were Yvonne Reff, who represented NCLS, and Fred Smith, who represented CEFLS.

  • The guest speaker was David Cossey, who spoke on "So Many Books, a Lot of RAM, Still Too Little Time: Reading, Libraries, Technology and the Future."

  • Joseph Swinyer lead a discussion group on "Library Volunteers." Tom Blauvelt, Mike Beccaria and Debra Kimok lead a discussion group on "Regional Digitization Projects." Paul Doty lead a discussion group on "Google Update."

  • Door prize winners were: Inger Curth of JCC’s Melvil Dewey Library; Teresa Fenton, an MLS student; Chris Hebblethwaite of SUNY Oswego’s Penfield Library; Jacqueline Madison of Wyeth Research; Bonnie Oemcke of Clarkson University’s Burnap Library; Fred Smith of CEF Library System; and Malcolm Starks of the Hepburn Library of Norfolk.

New Titles Added To Historical Newspapers Site

Three new titles have recently been added to the Network’s Northern New York Historical Newspapers site (news.nnyln.net).

  • The North Country Catholic (1946-91) is the official newspaper of the Diocese of Ogdensburg, which comprises Lewis, Jefferson, Saint Lawrence, Franklin, Clinton, and Essex counties, as well as parts of Herkimer and Hamilton counties.

  • The Oswegonian (1935-2002), the student newspaper of the State University of NY at Oswego.

  • Cardinal Points, the student newspaper of the State University of New York at Plattsburgh (1968-92 and 1997-2006). Northern Light (1941-67) and The Experiment (1940-41), which were the previous titles of the student newspaper, are also included.

Northern New York Historical Newspapers are provided by the Northern New York Library Network to enhance access to the region's unique local history. The online collection currently consists of more than 600,000 pages from 24 newspapers published in the North Country.
