Ogdensburg Advance-News Joins Newspaper Site

The Ogdensburg Advance and Ogdensburg Advance-News are the latest newspapers to be added to the Northern New York Historical Newspapers website found at http://news.nnyln.net/

The website of more than 410,000 pages from 21 newspapers is provided by the Northern New York Library Network. The addition of the Ogdensburg newspapers was produced with the cooperation of the Ogdensburg Public Library.

The Ogdensburg papers are the Ogdensburg Advance 1861-1862, 1877-1878, 1881-1933, and the Ogdensburg Advance-News from 1933-1962. The Ogdensburg Advance merged with the Ogdensburg News to form the Ogdensburg Advance-News. They include news from almost all other St. Lawrence County communities.

Archivist Linda Marshall with the Ogdensburg Public Library commented on how useful the newspapers have already proven to be.

"I cannot begin to tell you what a wonderful tool the Ogdensburg Advance on-line has been for the Ogdensburg Library. We use this site on a daily basis to answer questions that come to us," she said.

Mrs. Marshall pointed out one requestor from Cary, North Carolina had the following to say, "Thank you so much for your research of the Ogdensburg newspapers. I've connected with a branch of my family I Never Knew I Had!!! This wouldn't have been possible without the help of you, the Ogdensburg Public Library and the Northern New York Historical Newspapers website. What a wonderful service this provides."
