Lake Placid News Added To WebsiteWith the approval of the current publisher, the Lake Placid News newspaper, 1914 to 1951, is the latest title to be added to the Northern New York Library Network's Historical Newspapers website at news.nnyln.net The newspaper can be searched by key words or phrases and the results appear as images of the original newspaper pages. Everything in the paper, including the advertisements, is indexed. The weekly Lake Placid News covers news of Essex County, as well as Lake Placid itself. Of particular interest in the 1920s, is the "Club Colum (in simpler speling)," news of the Lake Placid Club written by Melvil Dewey in the simplified spelling that he advocated. The Lake Placid News joins 15 other listings of the Northern New York Historical Newspapers available for free searching. They include runs from the Adirondack Record-Elizabethtown Post, Akwesasne Indian Time, Canton Commercial Advertiser, Elizabethtown Post, Fort Covington Sun, Fulton Patriot, Lowville Journal & Republican, Malone Farmer, Malone Franklin Gazette, Plattsburgh Republican, Potsdam Herald-Recorder, Potsdam St. Lawrence Herald, Saranac Lake Adirondack Daily Enterprise, and the Ticonderoga Sentinel. Additional years of the Lake Placid News may be added in the future. A high-speed Internet connection is required to view the newspaper images.
