Library Legislative Day Set In Albany

Librarians, trustees, friends and users of libraries will gather in Albany on Tuesday, March 15, 2005 to meet with legislative leaders to talk about the future of library service in New York State, and to encourage legislators to reject Governor Pataki’s proposal to cut aid to libraries by 5 percent.

This day serves as the perfect opportunity to tell our elected officials how vital libraries are to each community they represent, and how important it is that the state continue to support libraries.

Meetings are scheduled as follows:
10:00 a.m. - Senator Elizabeth Little, 903 LOB
10:30 a.m. - Assemblyman Chris Ortloff, 450 LOB
11:00 a.m. - Assemblyman William Barclay, 938 LOB
11:30 a.m. - Assemblywoman Teresa Sayward, 633 LOB
12:30 p.m. - Assemblyman Darrel Aubertine, 602 LOB (Time Changed from 2 pm)
1:00 p.m. - Senator James Wright and Assemblywoman Dede Scozzafava, 811 LOB
2:30 p.m. - Senator Raymond Meier, 944 LOB

All members of the library community are encouraged to be involved in Library Legislative Day by going to Albany on March 15. You can help to educate decision makers about the importance of libraries in improving North Country research, teaching, learning and in contributing to the general quality of life.

If you are unable to attend this special day, please write your elected assembly member or state senator and let them know how valuable libraries are to your community. Anyone interested in sharing a ride or car-pooling, should contact the Network office.

Thank You - The NNYLN would like to thank Senator Wright and Assemblywoman Scozzfava for providing it with supplemental operating funds to make up for the shortfall in last year’s Governor’s budget. The Network will receive $8,194 from the Assemblywoman through Community Service Project Funds, and $6,202 from the Senator through Special Legislative Project Funds.
