One-Day Conference For Library Assistants

The NNYLN Library Assistants’ Committee met in June, 2004. Tracey LaBarge from Clinton-Essex-Franklin Library System and Dayna Cole from SUNY Potsdam’s Julia Crane Music Library were elected Co-Chairs. Rita Bridgen from SUNY Potsdam’s Crumb Memorial Library was elected Secretary.

The NNYLN Library Assistants’ Committee has planned a one-day conference to be held in November.

"A Healthy Mind + A Healthy Body = A Healthy Workplace" will be presented on November 17, 2004 at the NNYLN in Potsdam. Two one-hour morning sessions plus an afternoon of roundtable discussion groups will make for a full day of learning and networking.

Julia Rapczynski will teach assistants how to reduce mental and physical stress in the workplace, as well as demonstrate some exercises and yoga techniques. Dr. Harvey Smith will help assistants to improve themselves professionally and personally through "Inviting Success." Watch for the flyer coming soon, and please encourage all library assistants to attend.

The Library Assistants’ Committee is also in the process of compiling a survey to be distributed to all library assistants. Since this is such a varied group, the committee needs to know assistants’ wants and needs for the continuing education workshops. Look for the survey in January 2005.
