ICICILL Interlibrary Loan Video Is Available

The Northern New York Library Network has produced a 27 minute instructional video to provide staff training for the basics of the ICICILL interlibrary loan system.

The video, "ICICILL Interlibrary Loan ... an introduction," covers the basics of lending and borrowing materials, as well as configuring the ICICILL system for a library's own use.

"We see this as a way to provide training for ICICILL without the need for staff to travel. Staff can learn at their own pace and review the information as often as necessary," said John Hammond, NNYLN executive director.

"We have had the ICICILL system since March 2002 and many libraries have been trained on the basics, but library staff continues to change. We thought that a video would be a good way to introduce new staff to the system and to provide a refresher to others," Mr. Hammond said.

The video is on a DVD and is being shipped to member libraries and to library systems for distribution to their members. The video was created entirely in Northern New York. The presenters are Marsha Grey and Meg White from the North Country Library System. It was filmed at the Norfolk Hepburn Library, and both the editing and duplication were done in Massena. The video was written and directed by Tom Blauvelt of the NNYLN.

Libraries should watch for their copy to arrive soon. If institutions do not have a DVD player either in their computer or attached to their television, a 465 kb CD version may be viewed/downloaded from the Network’s website. Go to www.nnyln.org and click on "Publications" and then on "ICICILL Training." This version was designed for VGA monitors and is not as "rich" as the DVD version, which is available only on disc.
