Library Supporters Are Urged To Attend ConferenceRegistration for the New Century Libraries Advocacy Leadership Conference is now open. The conference will be held Thursday, September 16, 2004 at Clarkson University, Potsdam. The Conference represents an opportunity for library advocates to learn from one another and coordinate efforts to strengthen support for library services in their communities. The highlight of the meeting will be a speech by Richard Mills, President of the University of the State of New York and Commissioner of Education. The New Century Libraries Advocacy Leadership Meeting will also include remarks by Regent James Dawson, State Librarian Janet Welch, and other educational and cultural leaders. New Century Libraries is a proposal from the Board of Regents that would provide $107 million in new state aid to New York’s libraries. If passed by the Legislature and Governor, it will mean substantial service improvements for users of all types of libraries across the state.
