Library Space Event Is A Hit"This was, by far, the most interesting, informative, and accessible workshop I have ever attended!," reported one of the attendees at the March 26, 2004 workshop on Redesigning Library Space held at the NNY Library Network. The speaker/instructor was James Lothrop of Lothrop Associates, a registered architect and New York State Certified Interior Designer. He is the Design and Managing Partner of Lothrop Associates, a 24- person architectural and interior design firm located in Valhalla, New York. The firm has completed over 45 library commissions and has received more than two dozen design awards including recognition for library design from the American Institute of Architects and New York Library Association. As an active participant in the profession, Mr. Lothrop has been a featured speaker for two of NYLA’s Annual Conferences and also for Westchester Library System, offering insights on library space planning. He is a member of the American Library Association and the American Library Association Administration and Management Association, Building and Equipment Section. This one-day workshop was designed to help managers look at their existing space in a new light, based on service needs and the public’s changing expectations, and with a "clean eye" that enables them to make the most effective use of what they have and freshen their library’s look. Mr. Lothrop packed a wealth of information into a four hour workshop, and participants learned helpful strategies for assessing current conditions, evaluating how well existing space allotments are working, and analyzing data to reallocate space to meet new needs. Participants had the following to say about this event: "This program was just what we all needed." "This workshop was helpful and the information given will be great to use." " This was the most stimulating workshop I’ve been to in several years." "This was the best workshop! I can’t believe all the great information and materials I came away with." "This was one of your best!" "Great handouts - perfect intro to the subject." |
