Wilson Omnifile To Be RenewedThe Wilson Omnifile Full Text Select database contains over 1,000 select English-language periodicals published in the United States and elsewhere. Full text is provided for all periodicals (with accompanying indexing and abstracting). Publications indexed include the leading popular and general-interest magazines; professional, research and scholarly journals; trade and industry magazines; literary and political reviews; and little magazines. Detailed abstracts describe the content and scope of the source articles. This database has been purchased by the Northern New York Library Network for all libraries in the region for several years. Earlier this fall, libraries were notified that access to this database would be ending due to a sharp increase in price. The Network is now able to announce that access to the Wilson Omnifile Full Text Select database will be continued after all. The database will continue to be purchased by the Network through the Regional Bibliographic Database program; libraries will not be asked to share the cost of this resource. Libraries of all kinds - public, school, academic, and special - are permitted access to this resource. There will be a change in access to the database that the Network thinks will be welcome. Previously, access to this file was through SilverPlatter’s WebSpirs interface. Over the past several years, staff in a number of libraries have indicated this was not a particularly user friendly interface. Beginning in January 2004, the Wilson Omnifile will be available via WilsonWeb and should present a more friendly face to the user. Libraries in the region will be emailed information about eligibility, access and the URL that will be needed for the new interface. |
