NNYLN Scanner Provides Opportunities For Members

Did you know that images from microfilm can be scanned to TIFF or JPG image files and used in your library or posted on the web?

The NNYLN office now has a Canon 800 microfilm scanner that can give new life to microfilmed images by scanning them into computer images. The Network is making the use of this machine available to members as part of our digitization program. Of course, copyright rules apply to images that are put on the web.

Some examples of projects that can be accomplished by scanning microfilm are:
* copy pages of census returns for your town and post them on the web
* make microfilmed maps much easier to read in digital form
* permit access to special collection microfilm without harming the microfilm copies

You can make arrangements for your staff to use the scanner or you can contract with us to do it for you. For more details contact Thomas Blauvelt at NNYLN (blauvelt@northnet.org).
