A construction project which began in May at the Saranac Lake Free Library is expected to be wrapped up by the end of the year.

The project got going when Butler, Rowland and Mays, architects located in Mechanicville, completed the plans for the addition and renovation of the Saranac Lake Free Library. In April, Continental Construction Company from Gouverneur was hired to complete the project.

Work began in May in the Dickert Wildlife Museum, where the room was cut in half horizontally to form a children's room on the upper level.

The lower level will continue as a museum, but will be reinterpreted to allow year-round access. The area in the back will include an elevator, which will provide access to all levels of the building, additional bathrooms and staff work space. The Adirondack Room will be enhanced through better environmental controls for the preservation of documents and with additional storage and work space.

A November/ December 2003 completion date is anticipated.
