Electronic Reserves Come To Northern New York

The Northern New York Library Network is working with Docutek Information Systems to offer reduced-rate electronic reserve systems to its member academic libraries.

The system, called ERes, is the most widely used electronic reserves system in the world. It allows library staff and faculty to post full text reserve documents on the Web, thus providing round-the-clock access to reserve materials on-line.

Course materials can be accessed by instructor’s name, course name, or document title, and complete copyright compliance workflow management is provided through the system.

Other user-friendly features include document input via either scanner or fax machine and a complete statistics package that enables users to generate reports on system usage. This service is housed on a shared server located at the Northern New York Library Network headquarters in Potsdam.

Three area academic libraries are now using this program:

  • Southworth Library, SUNY Canton
  • Clinton Community College Library
  • Feinberg Library, SUNY Plattsburgh

Three other academic libraries will start using this program later this year:

  • Owen D, Young Library, St. Lawrence University
  • Harriet Call Burnap Memorial Library, Clarkson University
  • Penfield Library, SUNY Oswego

There will be a Northern New York Library Network/Docutek E-Reserves Users Group meeting for participating libraries later this spring. Other members who are interested in the use of this technology are welcome to attend.
