Group Access CapabilityThe OCLC Interlibrary Loan (ILL) service helps OCLC member libraries create, send, and track ILL requests. GAC, or Group Access Capability, lets libraries that are not OCLC members use this system. In order to participate in GAC, libraries must be profiled with OCLC, and understand there are fees associated with interlibrary loan requests processed through OCLC GAC. The Northern New York Library Network can help with this process and with costs. Through our Regional Bibliographic Data Base (RBDB) program, the Network has for some years served as the agent for libraries who want to be able to use GAC. Assistance includes handling the profiling needed by OCLC, providing a subsidy to help cover fees, and providing training in the use of the system. The Network’s Regional Automation Committee has decided to open enrollment in GAC in 2002. If your library is interested in becoming a GAC member you should, if you are a Network (3R’s) member library, call or email Bridget Doyle at 315-265-1119 or doyle@northnet.org If you are a public or school library, call your system headquarters. Annual Award For ExcellenceIt is not too early to be thinking about who you would like to nominate to be recognized as the Network’s 12th recipient of the Annual Award for Excellence in Library Service.
