Council Name Change UpdateAt its last meeting the Board of Trustees of the North Country Reference and Research Resources Council recommended changing the name of the Council to the Northern New York Library Network and has submitted this to the Council membership for a vote. The rationale behind this change is based upon the belief that the Council's current name no longer reflects the purpose of the organization. The Council has developed into a network that connects users, staff, and information through a variety of physical, virtual, institutional, and personal connections, in partnership with libraries of all kinds. Although the Council still puts much work into developing "reference and research resources," the term "network" is a far more descriptive and contemporary description of what the Council does. Also, the Council Board of Trustees believes that it's time for the Council, which has served libraries in the region for over thirty-five years, to have the word "library" in its name. Also, the Board believes that the Council's name should correctly reflect the chartered service area, which includes portions of Northern New York as well as the North Country. Should this name change be ratified by the membership, it will be submitted to the Board of Regents of the University of State of New York for approval. It is anticipated the entire process, should it go forward, will be completed by summer. Council Building Nears CompletionInterior work on the new Council building at 6721 US Highway 11 between Canton and Potsdam is scheduled to be completed sometime in April. Currently, all electrical and mechanical systems have been completed, all interior walls are up and painted, and ceilings and carpeting are being installed. Exterior work, including siding, paving, and landscaping will begin this spring once the weather turns warmer.
