LSTA 2001Work is well under way for the Council’s LSTA funded initiative to enhance Internet based document delivery. One health sciences library (Samaritan Medical Center) has installed and implemented the use of Ariel, an Internet based interlibrary loan and document delivery system. Another health sciences library, the Champlain Valley Physician’s Hospital Medical Center, will begin using Ariel later this spring. For more information on Ariel, go to: http://www.rlg.org/ariel/index.html In addition, academic libraries were invited to participate in demonstrations of interlibrary loan manager products. These products provide a comprehensive ILL management system that automates the routine borrowing and lending functions within the ILL department with a single, easy to use interface. After examination of available products, OCLC’s ILLiad system has been chosen. It seamlessly integrates borrowing automation, lending automation, and electronic document delivery in one web-based customer interface. ILLiad will be installed and implemented in three academic libraries later this spring. For more information about ILLiad, go to: http://www.illiad.oclc.org/index.stm Federal Library Services and Technology Act funds awarded to The New York State Library by the Federal Institute of Museum and Library Services support this project. |
