Library Assistants Have ConferenceThis year's Library Assistants Annual Conference was held at St. Lawrence University on November 9. Participants had the opportunity to learn communication skills from Susan Ross, program coordinator for the Department of English and Communication, SUNY Potsdam. Through exercises, roll playing and group dynamics, participants learned how to better communicate with staff, clients and supervisors. An afternoon session was devoted to roundtable discussions. Roundtables included groups for Interlibrary Loan, Circulation and Electronic Resources. Discussion in the groups was spirited and informative, with participants sharing their questions, problems, solutions, and expertise. Evaluations from the programs were very positive. The Library Assistants Conference is an annual event, and is planned with the help of the Council's Library Assistants Committee. For more information about the Committee, call Regional Services Coordinator Bridget Doyle at (315) 386-4569. Search & You May FindWe just came across a handy tool in Windows that we had overlooked before. If you need to find a document on your hard drive but don't remember the name of the file, you can search for text within a file by using an advanced feature of the Find program. Click on Start, Find, Files or Folders. Click on the Advanced tab. There you can enter any words that you remember were in your document. You can also limit your search by size of the document or the date created or modified by using the Date Modified tab during the same search if you wish. |
