Grant Assists Council's New Training Lab

The North Country Reference & Research Resources Council recently received approval of an application for funds through the Library Services and Technology Act (LSTA).

Funds received from this grant will assist the Council in equipping a training center located in the Council's new building, now under construction.

The training center will include a classroom and a computer lab, equipped for state of the art teaching. The classroom will seat 60 people and be equipped for satellite download as well as traditional teaching methods. The computer lab will include twenty networked workstations, and will have Internet access, and projection capability.

Once complete, the Council will be able to schedule workshops and meetings on site. The space will also be available for use by member libraries when not being used for Council programming.

Improved facilities will enable the Council to expand continuing education horizons, and offer more technology programs, from beginner through advanced levels.

Future programming will include web design classes and the opportunity to enroll in a series of workshops dedicated to one technology area. Watch future issues of Points North for continuing education program announcements.

Construction of the Council's new training center and offices has continued in spite of several days of rain and snow.

Foundation walls have been poured, rough plumbing and electrical services installed, and exterior walls have been erected. Work will continue throughout the winter.
