LSTA Grant Application Is ApprovedThe North Country Reference and Research Resources Council has been successful in obtaining LSTA funds for an electronic content project grant. With the grant, the Council will be able to expand the network of Ariel users in the region by two. The project will provide hardware and software for Samaritan Medical Center and Champlain Valley Physician's Hospital Medical Center to install and use Ariel for high-definition online ILL electronic transmission services. Expanding the local Ariel network will also add medical and health-based collections to the documents that are available locally. In addition, the Council will upgrade the ILL electronic transmission systems at SUNY Canton, SUNY Oswego, SUNY Potsdam, St. Lawrence University, and Clarkson University (each of which already uses the ArielŪ Electronic Document Transmission System), with the Research Libraries' Group newly available ILL ManagerŪ software to provide them with more efficient and cost-effective transmission of electronic format documents. Connected To Health"Connected to Health" is the title of the Council's LSTA health informative project. A website designed to help consumers, researchers, patients and their families search for health and medical information in a user-friendly way was one of the results of the project. The site is available at: www.nnyhealthweb.org Libraries can expect to receive pads of tear-off sheets explaining what is on this site and how best to use it. We hope you will place these pads near you public access computers so those clients looking for health and medical information will use them. If you would like more pads, please call the Council office at (315) 386- 4569. |
