Events Are Planned For Archives Week 2000, Oct. 8-14Archives Week 2000 is being held the week of Oct. 8-14 and a number of repositories throughout Clinton, Essex, Franklin, Jefferson, Lewis, Oswego and St. Lawrence counties are hosting activities which are open to the public. The week is sponsored by the New York State Documentary Heritage Program and is administered locally by the North Country Reference and Research Resources Council based in Canton. A number of Archives Week activities are being held within the Council's region and they are as follows: The Potsdam Public Library is hosting a display box on archives throughout the month of October. The Olympic Regional Development Authority and Lake Placid Winter Olympic Museum is hosting an open house from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Oct. 10 at the Olympic Museum in Lake Placid, and an art exhibit on Oct. 8-14 at the Lake Placid High School. Chateaugay Memorial Library is hosting an exhibit entitled "John D. Hotchkiss Historical Collection" the week of Oct. 8-14 at the Library located at the Town Hall on Main Street. The exhibit will be open from 1 to 5 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. on Monday and Wednesday, and from 10 a.m. to noon and 1 to 5 p.m. on Saturday. There will be a display of the Library's historical collection. The Stockholm Historical Organization is hosting an open house from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Oct. 8 and 12 at the Municipal Building on Route 11 in Winthrop. The Archives and History Center Archives will be open, as well as current exhibits. The Potsdam Public Museum is hosting an open house from 2 to 5 p.m. daily from Oct. 10-14. There will be an open house in archives, with an introduction of a new brochure with rules for using archival material in the museum. The St. Regis Falls historians will be hosting an exhibit of old pictures from Oct. 8-16 at Community Bank in St. Regis Falls. The St. Lawrence County Historical Association is hosting an open house and tour with free admission entitled "Welcome to Your History" from 2 to 6 p.m. on Oct. 11 at St. Lawrence County Archives, 3 East Main Street in Canton. Fort Ticonderoga will be hosting a lecture entitled "An Introduction to the Resources in the Thompson-Pell Research Center Relating to the French and Indian War" at 7 p.m. on Oct. 11 at the Research Center on Fort Road in Ticonderoga. The College Archives and Special Collections is hosting an open house entitled "SUNY Potsdam College Archives and Special Collections Open House" from 3 to 6 p.m. on Oct. 12 in the Snell Room, second floor of Crumb Library at SUNY Potsdam. Paul Smith's College Museum will be hosting an open house from 2 to 4 p.m. Oct. 12-14 at Paul Smith's College Museum, Cubley Library. The Adirondack Museum is hosting an open house entitled "The Greatest Generation: WW II in the Adirondacks" from 2 to 4 p.m. on Oct. 13 at the Adirondack Museum Library in Blue Mountain Lake. The Essex County Historical Society will be sponsoring "John Brown: Sword of the Spirit," a concert and original one-act play performed by the folk duo MAGPIE Oct. 13-15. They will also sponsor a discussion lead by Dr. Kwando Kinshasa on Oct. 14. (For more information, call 518-962-4781, or 518-873-6466.)
