WORKSHOPS AND MEETINGS ARE SCHEDULED


A number of workshop and meetings are scheduled for the Fall months. If you are interested in taking part in a workshop, please be sure and contact the Council office to register.
  • Sept. 11&12 - "Basic Elements of Historical Records Collections" will be held from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Sept. 11 at the Hotel Saranac in Saranac Lake, and on Sept. 12 at the Days Inn in Watertown. This workshop will provide information to the newcomer in historical records, as well as serve as a refresher course for those who have been in the field.
  • Sept. 16 - The Clinton and Essex Counties Roundtable will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Senior Center in Schroon Lake. The topic will be "Reaching Our Audience."
  • Sept. 18 - "Interlibrary Loan - North Country Policies, Procedures and Systems" will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Lake Placid Hilton. This is the Council's Annual Interlibrary Loan Workshop.
  • Sept. 25 - "Security in Archives"
  • will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Potsdam Museum. Discussion will revolve around the problems and challenges involved in providing security to special collections of materials.
  • Sept. 26 - North Country regional meeting on Historical Records Issues will be held from 10 to 11:30 a.m. at the Adirondack Museum in Blue Mountain Lake. (For more information, go to www.nyshrab.org)
  • Oct. 10 - "Database Searching" will be held from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at Canton College. There is a cost of $10 which includes lunch. This is a hands-on class offering training and practice time for learning and refreshing skills in database searching.
  • Oct. 12 - The North Country Reference and Research Resources Council Board will meet at 10 a.m. in Canton.
  • Oct. 13 - "Cataloging Internet Resources" will be held from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at St. Lawrence University in Canton. There is a cost of $10 which includes lunch. This class covers how to use the MARC format with Internet resources (AKA "remote access computer files".)
  • Oct. 13 - The St. Lawrence and Franklin Counties Roundtable will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Almanzo and Laura Ingalls Wilder Association in Malone. The topic will be "How to Survey Collections and Make a Work Plan."
  • Oct. 14 - The Jefferson/Lewis/Oswego Counties Roundtable will be held from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Hilltop Restaurant in Constableville. The topic will be "Volunteers."
  • Oct. 25 - "Database Searching" will be held from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at Clinton Community College in Plattsburgh. (This has been rescheduled from Oct. 23. See Oct. 10 description.)
  • Nov. 1-4 - New York Library Association Annual Conference will be held in Saratoga Springs.
  • Nov. 9 - The Council's Annual Library Assistants Conference will be held from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at St. Lawrence University in Canton. There is a cost of $10 which includes lunch.
  • Nov. 17 - "Copyright in the Digital Age" will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Cheel Center at Clarkson University in Potsdam. (This has been rescheduled from Oct. 13.)
