Copyright Class Is Added To Class Line-Up

"Digitization and Copyright" has been added to the fall continuing education schedule. The class will be held on Friday, November 7 at the Northern New York Library Network in Potsdam. It will be taught by Peter Hirtle, Intellectual Property Officer for the Cornell University Libraries.

This class will explore what strategies a digitization program can follow to minimize the risks inherent when publishing material on the web.  Topics covered will include an introduction to basic copyright law and the Digital Millennium Copyright Act, including "fair use" and "public domain" issues; methods for assessing the copyright status of materials; and issues associated with particular formats.  It will also discuss what options are available to protect personal intellectual property.
