Information About POLARIS

Special Collections, Feinberg Library, Plattsburgh State University of NY, has been collecting and indexing area newspapers and other materials for more than 30 years.

Central to this work has been the goal of providing researchers with access to materials of historical, scientific, and cultural interest. In order to extend their service to those unable to use the Special Collections card catalog, they offer this database for your use.

While use of this service is free, please remember that the index itself is a copyrighted work and any reproduction of its contents must be with the permission of Special Collections.

Several kinds of materials are indexed in the catalog and, now, in their on-line service. Current and historical indexing of the Plattsburgh Press Republican, its predecessors, and other newspapers from Clinton, Essex, and Franklin counties has always been a priority.

While not all articles are indexed (less than 100% coverage), an effort has been made to include those articles most likely to be of local interest.

Other periodicals are also indexed. Entries have been included for articles from local, regional, state, and related journals held in Special Collections. In addition, users will find entries for pamphlets, photographs, manuscript collections, maps, and other materials held in Special Collections.

For book materials, please search FLAIR, Feinberg Library's on-line catalog. Link to this page and choose OPAC: www.plattsburgh.edu/acadvp/libinfo/library/

All materials listed, with the exception of microfilmed newspapers, are held in Special Collections. Those entries with a call number beginning with 'MF' are microfilmed and are located in Feinberg's Periodical Section on the third floor.

Many other libraries in the region have at least some of the materials indexed here. To obtain access to these materials from outside the region, consult your local librarian about Interlibrary Loan services.
