Serving Not-For-Profit Organizations Through A WorkshopWhen the Adirondack Community Trust (ACT) was formed in the summer of 1997, its new board considered the various ways it might serve not-for-profit organizations in the Adirondacks and Northeastern New York. ACT believes that grant-making alone is not enough and, therefore, is offering the first in a series of training workshops. This first workshop will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on January 19 (snow date January 26) at the Hilton Hotel in Lake Placid. The seminar is entitled, "The Board of Directors in the Nonprofit Organization: Understanding Your Role, Strengthening Your Organization: How Board and Staff Can Work Together More Effectively." Who should attend: staff and board members of not-for-profit organizations. The cost for the day is $30, which includes materials, lunch and coffee breaks. ACT has announced Meghan Johnston will be leading the workshop. A senior consultant with the Institute for Nonprofit Development, a division of the Council of Community Services on NYS, Ms. Johnston is highly skilled and personable. She holds a Master's degree from the Rockefeller School of Public Affairs and Policy, and for the last 12 years has facilitated training sessions to help boards pursue their missions effectively. This seminar is co-sponsored by the Adirondack Community Trust and the Lake Placid Education Foundation, with assistance from the Lake Placid Institute. To register, call the Lake Placid Institute at (518) 523-1313, or fax them at (518) 523-5354. Ask for Sydney or Leslie. Enrollment is limited. |
