Take A Course - For Free!

Many library staff members have begun taking courses offered by the North Country Reference and Research Resources Council through DPEC, an interactive computer-based training group

. Information on these courses was released in the November Points North, through an e-mailing and through U.S. mail.

The program is being supported by Federal Library Services and Technology Act funds, awarded to the New York State Library by the Federal Institution of Museum and Library Services.

One of the most enticing aspects of the program is that it is being offered FREE of charge to library personnel.

Over 300 courses under the categories of end-user and technical are being provided.

Anyone who is interested in taking a course is first encouraged to look at the course catalog on DPEC's homepage at www.dpec.com

To find out information on any given course, simply click on the course name.

Once you have decided which course you would like to take, contact Pam Ouimet at the Council at pouimet@northnet.org and provide her with your name (including middle initial), the name of the library you work for, the name of the library system you belong to, and the name of the course.

You are welcome to take more than one course, but you can only take one course at a time.

Once you have finished a course, again contact Pam and a certificate of completion will be sent out to you.

If you would like more information on the DPEC program, contact Pam and a flier will be mailed out to you.

If you have any technical questions while taking a course, DPEC's Help Desk may be reached at 1-800-223-3732 between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m.
