Database Access Update

The North Country Reference and Research Resources Council offers libraries in the region access to electronic databases at substantial savings.

Through our membership in WALDO (Westchester Academic Library Directors' Organization) the Council is able to offer savings to libraries on subscriptions to ProQuest, Britannica Online, Hoover's Online and a large number of SilverPlatter databases, including PsychInfo, MLA, and much, much more. These services are available to members at costs based on FTE student enrollment or, for a public library, a percentage of the user population. Please call the Council office for more information on these databases.

A reminder: Access to two popular resources is being provided through the Regional Bibliographic Data Bases Program and is offered to all regional libraries at no charge. Access to Wilson Omnifile Select is available via the Internet to all libraries in the region. This subscription began on July 1, 1999 and will continue through June 30, 2000. If your library is a NorthNet user, you will automatically be enrolled. If your Internet access is through another service provider, you must send your IP address or IP address range, to the Council as soon as possible. Send the information to the attention of Bridget Doyle, e-mail doyle@northnet.org

OCLC's WorldCat contains more than 40 million records of any type of material cataloged by OCLC member libraries. It includes manuscripts written as early as the 12th Century. The Council has negotiated the purchase of several simultaneous user ports for WorldCat. All of last year's FirstSearch libraries are eligible for access to WorldCat. WorldCat is available now through June 30, 2000. For more information, contact the Council office.
