Facing A Disaster DocumentThe manual, In The Face of Disaster, Preparing for Emergencies in the North County, has been updated. It is now accessible through the Council’s web page, as well as through the NorthNet web page. The manual may be found by going to www.nc3r.org/faceofdisaster The manual deals with how to handle a crisis situation involving any archive or library collection. Chapters include: Creating a Disaster Plan with this Workbook, Disaster Prevention and Preparedness Planning, Response to an Emergency Situation, Disaster Recovery and Salvage, and Resources Available. A number of forms are provided in the manual. Librarians and archivists are urged to print out and complete the forms as suggested. It would also be a good idea to print out the entire manual as well, so it will be on hand and immediately available should a disaster occur. It is also very important that the information on the forms be kept up to date. A listing of Disaster Resources is also included, which is meant to provide those in distress with phone numbers and addresses of businesses that specialize in a variety of disaster relief formats. A listing of Disaster Volunteers is provided as well. These individuals have received at least some disaster training and could be of assistance in the case of an emergency. The manual is provided by the North Country Reference and Research Resources Council with funding from the New York State Program for the Conservation and Preservation of Library Research Materials. |
