Dates To Remember

  • Archives Week 1999 is scheduled to take place the week of October 10-16.

    A letter will be mailed out in early June giving specifics about this special week. A section will address the activities which will be taking place throughout the North Country counties, and participants will be urged to complete the information and send it to the North Country Reference and Research Resources Council.

  • The Directory of Archival and Historical Document Collections for 1999 is in the process of being updated, and copies will be available this summer.

    The directory will also be distributed to archives at no charge and will be placed on the Council’s web site.

  • Dates for the Spring Regional Roundtable discussions have been set.

    The topic for the Roundtable for Jefferson, Lewis and Oswego counties will be "Using the Internet as an Informational Source." It will be held in two sessions, from 10 to 11 a.m. and from 1 to 2 p.m. at the Ainsworth Memorial Library in Sandy Creek. The presentation will be made by library Director Margaret Kastler. Those in attendance will have a hands-on experience by getting on the Internet and finding sources.

    The topic for the Roundtable for Franklin and St. Lawrence counties will be "Institutional Planning: Why We Need It." It will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on June 26 at the Colton Town Hall. A tour of the Colton Historical Society Museum will be conducted, which will include looking at their archives. A report will be given on the DHP services they received.

    The topic for the Roundtable for Essex and Clinton counties will be "Getting Connected, Local History and the Internet." It will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on June 28 at the Adirondack History Center in Elizabethtown. The guest speakers will be Director of the Ticonderoga Historical Society Elaine Reynolds and Essex County Historical Society Director Reid Larson.

  • The Council has scheduled a number of workshops throughout the summer. They include:

    June 18: Basic Elements of Historical Records Programs, in Watertown.
    June 25: Second Annual Archival Conference, in Saranac Lake.
    August 11: Archival Security, in Saranac Lake.
    August 12: Archival Security, in Watertown.
