Records Management

Archivists and librarians alike know the importance of the Local Government Records Management Improvement Fund (LGRMIF), and how crucial it is that the Fund continue.

The sunset provision needs to be lifted so the Fund may become a permanent program to aid localities.

The LGRMIF provides critical support for the Document Heritage Program and its services for historical records, community archives and libraries.

According to the New York State Educational Department Office of Cultural Education, LGRMIF programs are an investment in good government. They also support programs that yield well-educated students and an informed public. Such programs:

  • Preserve essential documentary evidence in current and historical records.
  • Improve public services provided by government and cultural institutions.
  • Broaden awareness that archives touch every community and every individual.
  • Enliven and improve education.

All archivists and librarians are being urged to contact Senator Mary Lou Rath and Assemblyman Thomas DiNapoli and request that the sunset provision be lifted so the good work of the Fund may continue.

The Senator may be contacted by writing to:
5500 Main Street, Suite 260, Williamsville, NY 14221-6737; or to: New York State Senate, 815 Legislative Office Building, Albany, NY 12247.

The Assemblyman may be contacted by writing to:
New York State Assembly; LOB 621, Albany, NY 12248; or to: 11 Middle Neck Road, Suite 210, Great Neck, NY 11021.
