
Spring Roundtables Are SetThe first robins have been seen looking for worms, and area residents can be seen shedding those hats and gloves. So it must be time for the spring DHP Regional Roundtables! The Jefferson-Lewis-Oswego Roundtable will be held on April 30, 2005 from 9:30 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. at the Half-Shire Historical Society in the hamlet of Richland, Oswego County. The topic will be "Membership Development: The Care, Feeding, and Growing of Your Members," and the facilitators will be Town of Richland Historian and Half-Shire President Shawn Patrick Doyle, and Half-Shire Vice President Keith Willis. The discussion will focus on the different means of expanding membership numbers and increasing participation for historical societies, as well as highlight the role of newsletters, membership programs, contact lists and simple correspondence. There will be a tour of the building, and a hot lunch will be provided on-site (free-will offerings will be accepted). For more information, contact Mr. Doyle or Mr. Willis, at (315) 298-3620. There is no fee to attend, but please register by April 26. The Clinton-Essex Roundtable will be held on May 14, 2005 from 9:30 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. at the Plattsburgh Public Library. The topic will be "Involving the Community: Outreach and Volunteers," and the facilitator will be St. Lawrence County Historical Association Director Trent Trulock. The discussion will focus on forming relationships within the community, communicating with the public, and attracting volunteers to assist in the organization. There is no fee to attend, but please register by May 10. The St. Lawrence-Franklin Roundtable will be on May 21, 2005 from 9:30 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. at the Massena Museum. The topic will be "Dealing with Scrapbooks," and the facilitator will be Massena Village and Town Historian Teresa Sharp. Discussion will focus on what to do with those frustrating scrapbooks. They hold lots of great information, but how do we make them useable to the public? The care and handling of scrapbooks and indexing will be covered. Participants are asked to bring their own ideas of how to deal with scrapbooks to share with the group. There will be a short tour of the Museum, and lunch is on your own.
