Spring Roundtables Scheduled

Waiting for the glimpse of that first robin, buds sprouting from trees and the earth, and DHP Roundtable discussions are all signs that spring is here!

The Jefferson-Lewis-Oswego Roundtable is scheduled for April 24, 2004 (please note: this date has changed from the originally scheduled date of May 1). The event will run from 9:30 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. at the Antique Boat Museum, 750 Mary Street, Clayton. The discussion will be "The Care and Feeding of Boards of Trustees," and will be lead by Jefferson County Historical Society Executive Director Fred Rollins and Museum Association of New York Director Ann Ackerson. The topic of discussion will focus on identifying potential members, recruiting, orientation and training, retention of board members, financial and fund raising concerns, ethics, conflicts of interest, and terms of office. The emphasis will be upon group discussions, suggestions, and comments. Participants are asked to bring their views and any ideas and questions about boards of trustees they would like discussed. Although lunch is on your own, when registering please indicate if you would like to join up with an informal lunch group.

There is no fee to attend, but please register by April 16 by contacting the NNYLN. For more information, contact Mr. Rollins at 315-782-3491.

The Clinton-Essex Roundtable will be held April 24, 2004 from 9:30 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. at the Alice T. Miner Museum, Chazy. The topic of discussion will be "The Gift Process," and will lead by Essex County Historical Society Director Margaret Gibbs. The discussion will focus on procedures to establish ownership and rights of use when adding donated items to the collection. Sample gift forms and thank you letters will be presented. Participants are asked to share with the group. The day will include a tour of the museum. Lunch is on your own.

There is no fee to attend, but please register by April 16 by contacting the NNYLN. For more information, contact Ms. Gibbs at 518-873-6466.

The Franklin-St. Lawrence Roundtable will be May 22, 2004 from 9:30 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. at the Hepburn Library (downstairs), Waddington. The topic of discussion will be "Finding Financial Resources," and will be lead by Pat Tubbs of JP Tubbs Company. The roundtable discussion will focus on how to find financial resources during these tough economic times. As grants become more competitive and government support is reduced, where can history repositories look for funding? Participants are asked to share their ideas with others who are facing the same funding dilemmas. The meeting will end with a walking tour of historic Waddington. Lunch may be purchased at the local bowling alley for those who are interested.

There is no fee to attend, but please register by May 14 by contacting the NNYLN. For more information, contact St. Lawrence County Historical Association Director Trent Trulock at 315-386-8133.

The Roundtables are open to the public, no matter what region you are from.
