Fall Roundtables Are Set

Before North Country residents break out the rakes and think about turning on the heat, mark those calendars for the annual fall Regional Roundtables!

The Clinton-Essex Counties Roundtable will be held Saturday, September 10, 2005 at the Westport Library. The day will begin at 9:30 a.m. and adjourn at 1:00 p.m. The topic of discussion will be "Increasing Local Support," and will focus on attracting local financial support through programs, events, attendance, membership, and receiving financial gifts. There will be a tour of the library, where lunch will also be served.

For more information, contact Essex County Historical Society Director Margaret Gibbs at 518-873-6466. Although there is no cost to attend, please register with the NNYLN by September 7.

The Jefferson-Lewis-Oswego Roundtable will be held Saturday, October 1, 2005 at the Lewis County Historical Society, Lowville. The day will begin at 9:30 a.m. and adjourn at 2:30 p.m. The topic of discussion will be "Do the Right Thing: Preservation/Conservation on a Shoe-String Budget," and will be lead by Lewis County Historical Society Director Lisa Becker, Oswego County Historian Barbara Dix, and Jefferson County Historian Ben Cobb. There will also be a brief tour of the archives.

Participants will discuss the arrangement and description of objects in their collection(s), why and how budgeting can assist in the ease of one’s job, and see what tools are available once they have budgeted for proper materials to house objects in. The St. Lawrence-Franklin Counties Roundtable will be held Saturday, October 15, 2005 at the Westville Historical Organization. The day will begin at 9:30 a.m. and adjourn at 1:00 p.m. The topic of discussion will be "Planning & Organizing Your Space," and will be lead by Paul Smith’s College Systems Librarian Susan Mitchell, MLS. There will also be a tour of the WHO Museum.

The discussion will focus on planning new or reorganizing current storage spaces, space needs, and tips on organizing collections and vendors for supplies. Participants are asked to come prepared to share their questions, ideas, and experiences. For more information, contact St. Lawrence County Historical Association Director Trent Trulock at 315-386-8133. Although there is no cost to attend, please register with the NNYLN by October 12.
