
Roundtables Are ScheduledThe fall 2004 Regional Archival Roundtables have been scheduled. These popular events promise to be filled with useful information, and opportunities for participants to share knowledge about their repositories. The Clinton-Essex Counties Archival Roundtable will be held Sept. 18, 2004 from 9:30 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. at Iron Center, Port Henry. The topic of discussion will be "Researching and Writing Grants," and will be facilitated by Essex County Historical Society Director Margaret Gibbs. The discussion will focus on identifying potential state, federal and private grant sources, selecting a funding source, and writing the grant proposal. The Jefferson-Lewis-Oswego Counties Archival Roundtable will be held Sept. 25, 2004 from 9:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. at the Thousand Islands Museum, Clayton. The topic of discussion will be "Publications: How to More Effectively Reach Your Audience," and will be facilitated by Jefferson County Historical Society Executive Director Fred Rollins. The discussion will focus on various ways small institutions can better reach their audiences through publications. The emphasis will be on how to create attractive, appealing and informative newsletters, bulletins, posters, flyers and other publications for the audiences participants are seeking to reach. Discussion will also include how recent technologies can be used to your advantage in creating publications; for example, computers, the Internet, "desktop publishing," and more. The emphasis will be upon group discussions, suggestions, and comments. Participants are asked to bring their views, ideas and questions they would like discussed. Participants are also invited to bring any examples of publications they would like to share with the rest of the group. There will be a tour of the Thousand Islands Museum, and lunch is on your own. The Franklin-St. Lawrence Counties Archival Roundtable will be held Oct. 23, 2004 from 9:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. at the Union Depot, Saranac Lake. The topic of discussion will be "Collections Storage." The event is being hosted by Historic Saranac Lake, and there will be a tour of the facility.
