| Collection: | Founded in 1972, the society represents
the northern Oswego County towns of Albion, Amboy, Boylston, Orwell, Parish, Redfield,
Richland, Sandy Creek and Williamstown. The group is headquartered (since 1974) in the
former Richland school, a two story brick structure built in 1926. The society museum
has been undergoing extensive second floor renovations. The Pulaski Lions Club occupies
one of the fourth former classrooms upstairs. Two other rooms are being refitted for
domestic arts and school exhibits, the fourth room will again feature agriculture and
logging exhibits. The Library hold a large collection of genealogical material on the
region with a large emphasis on Redfield families. The first floor auditorium can seat
over 100 comfortably and is available for rental. The fully modernized kitchen was
renovated in 2004 and is open to the hall by a new serving counter. Rest rooms are in
the entry level (M & F). Half-Shire has coordinated the Heritage Building Exhibit at
the Oswego County Fair for over 10 years. Membership, $10 a year, 12-page newsletter
issued five times a year. Sizable list of publications on local history. |

| Collection: | Perserving 300 years of Oswego Maritime
history. The collection contains paintings, artifacts,
documents, and models. Among the paintings are the epic oils done by the
distinguished artist George Gray telling the story of Fort
Ontario. The museum features NYS Canal Derrick Boat No. 8, the
last steam-powered vessel remaining on the Barge Canal.
Also acquired a WW II tug, the "LT-5," a National Historical
Landmark that participated in the Normandy Invasion. The last commercial fish boat,
the Eleanor D., that worked Lake Ontario, has been acquired by the museum. |
