2000
April - The Northern New York Library Resources Corp. was incorporated.
May - The North Country 3Rs Council celebrates its 35th anniversary at its annual
meeting, held at the Howard Johnson’s Resort Inn in Lake Placid. The 10th Annual Award for
Excellence in Library Services is presented to Erma Hover of North Country Library System.
The Council updates its logo and colors. Three trees are now used as the company logo;
and the trademark color changes from blue to green.
October - The Council breaks ground for its new building at 6721 US HWY 11,
Potsdam. The facility will house a 21-station computer lab and 60-seat meeting room.
September - Ten Professional Development Awards are given. The recipients are
Jacqueline Timer, Kathy LaBombard, Juanita McPherson, Elizabeth Young, Catherine
Whitton, Michelle Toth, Carla List, Ravil Veli, Kenyon Wells, and the Clinton Essex
Franklin Library System for various staff members.
December - The North Country 3Rs Council receives a grant through the Library
Services and Technology Act to be used toward equipping the training center in its new
building.
2001
March - The North Country 3Rs Council Board of Trustees recommends changing the
name of the Council to the Northern New York Library Network. The recommendation is
submitted to the Council membership for a vote.
May - The North Country 3Rs Council holds its 36th Annual Meeting in Alexandria
Bay. The 11th Annual Award for Excellence in Library Service is presented to Patricia
Musante of the Potsdam Public Library.
June - Work is completed on the North Country 3Rs Council’s new building on Route
11 in Potsdam. The staff officially moves into their new offices.
Six Professional Development Program Awards are given. They were presented to Karen Largo, Betsy Brooks, Inger Curth, Michelle Toth, Sandra Griffin and Jane Subramanian.
July - The Board of Regents of the University of the State of New York approves
the name change request submitted by the North Country Reference and Research Resources
Council. The new official name is the Northern New York Library Network.
The NNY Library Network hosts its first workshop in the building’s new computer lab.
September - The Northern New York Library Network officially announces it has
sold its NorthNet Internet Services subsidiary to Westelcom Communications based in
Plattsburgh. Westelcom merged NorthNet with its existing service.
October - The NNY Library Network holds and open house at their building on Route
11. Librarians, dignitaries and media personnel are given a tour of the new facility.
2002
February - The new ICEPAC ILL module, ICICILL, is named. The module replaces the
HOBO email system.
May - The Northern New York Library Network holds its 37th Annual Meeting in Lake
Placid. The 12th Annual Award for Excellence in Library Service is presented to Carol White
of the Akwesasne Cultural Center.
August - Participants attending NNYLN workshops can now sign-up through an on-line
registration form on the Network’s website.
September - Network computer workshops are opened to the public.
Ten Professional Development Program grants are awarded. They were presented to Mary Beth
Bell, Holly Heller-Ross, Nancy Alzo, Ravil Veli, Barbara Shaffer, Barbara Osgood, Celia
Livingston, Allison Wheeler, Edward Komara and Sarah Sachs.
October - The Network co-sponsors the Association of Research Libraries Institute
"Creating a Culture of Assessment" event. Six academic librarians from four libraries in the
region attend.
November - Direct access by libraries allows ICICILL to go public.
December - The Network introduces an employment listings page of regional library
positions on its website.
2003
January - A microfilm scanner and workstation are purchased for the Northern New
York Library Network.
February - NNY Newspaper Archives are available through the www.icepac.net
website.
April - Press releases and photos issued by the Network are available through the
"Publications" section of its website.
Lewis County Law Library, Lowville becomes a member of the Network.
The website, www.nnylibraryfriends.org, is made available for the public.
May - The Northern New York Library Network holds its 38th Annual Meeting in
Alexandria Bay. The 13th Annual Award for Excellence in Library Service is preseted to
Mary Alice O'Mara of Oswego Hospital.
The Handweaving Museum & Arts Center, Clayton becomes a member of the Network.
June - NNYLN employees take part in the 25th Annual Conference of the New York
State Library Assistant’s Association in Plattsburgh as workshop speakers.
August - Results from the MLS survey conducted by the Network are posted on the
NNYLN website.
September - The Network is host to the "Intellectual Freedom Conference" with
discussion leader Judith Krug, Director of the American Library Association’s Office for
Intellectual Freedom.
November - A site index is added to the NNYLN’s website.
December - Mary McCarthy retires from the Network.
2004
February - Tammy Mason is hired an the Network's Office Assistant.
April - Five Professional Development Program awards are given. They were
presented to Mary Beth Bell, Barbara Shaffer, Betsy Brooks, Kenyon Wells, and Michelle
Perry.
May - The Northern New York Library Network holds its 39th Annual Meeting in
Lake Placid. The 14th Annual Award for Excellence in Library Service is presented to Ellen
Darabaner of Samaritan Medical Center.
September - The Northern New York Library Network is one of the host agencies of
the New Century Libraries Advocacy Leadership Meeting held at Clarkson University, Potsdam.
Commissioner of Education Richard Mills is the highlighted speaker.
October - "ICICILL Interlibrary Loan... an introduction" is made available on a
DVD video.
December - The Network launches the "Northern New York Historical Newspapers"
website at news.nnyln.net.
2005
January - The Regional Disaster Depots are completely restocked in all three
locations: eastern, central and western areas.
February - A flyer and brochure on "Databases Available to North Country
Libraries" is created and distributed.
The "North Country Digital History" project is underway.
April - Radio and television commercials are aired hundreds of times in the
Network’s seven-county region during National Library Week. The project is funded by the
NNYLN, NCLS, CEFLS, and the Federal Library Services & Technology Act.
Judith Warren and Teresa Fenton are selected as recipients of MLS Scholarships
through the "Making it REAL!" program.
May - The NNY Library Network celebrates its 40th
anniversary during the Annual Meeting held in Alexandria Bay. The 15th Annual Award for
Excellence in Library Service is presented to Regan DeFranza of North Country
Library System.
June - The NNY Library Network website and the ICEPAC website both get
newly updated looks.
November - The NNYLN announces the first ever Award for Outstanding
Student Employee will be given within its service area.
December - The North Country Digital History project is officially opened
to participation by all libraries, archives, museums and local history repositories
in the region.
2006
January - Regional meetings are held in three locations to update
the Network's 5-Year-Plan spanning 2006-2011.
April - The first ever NNYLN Award for Outstanding Students in Network Member
Libraries is given to Matthew Kemberling of Paul Smith’s College Joan Weill Adirondack
Library, Erik Wooding of SUNY Plattsburgh’s Feinberg Library, and Robin VanAuken of SUNY
Potsdam’s Crumb Library.
May - The NNY Library Network celebrates its 41st anniversary during the Annual
Meeting held in Potsdam. The 16th Annual Award for Excellence in Library Service is
presented to Lyn Swafford, Canton Free Library.
September - The Network begins using a new email format for sending continuing
education announcements to library and DHP personnel.
October - The Network announces it is offering CE Assist - Training on Demand for
member libraries to help meet their needs for customized staff training.
November - Six Professional Development Awards are given. They are presented to
Rose Hare, Kathie LaBombard, Julie Weaver, Tracey LaBarge, Colleen Pelletier, and Elaine
Dunn-Thayer.
2007
February - The NNYLN announces it is taking credit card payments for workshops, and
for donations to the Northern New York Historical Documents website.
Tammy Mason leaves the NNY Library Network.
Carly Durland is hired as the Network’s Office Assistant.
March - Carly Durland leaves the NNYLN.
Tami Guerty is hired as the Network’s Office Assistant.
May - The NNY Library Network celebrates its 42nd anniversary during the Annual Meeting held in Lake
Placid. The 17th Annual Award for Excellence in Library Service is presented to Jane Subramanian, SUNY Potsdam.

June - Donna Crawford is hired as the Network’s Office Assistant.
November - The NNYLN announces its first Researching the North Country Writing Competition. First and
second place awards will be announced on National History Day - May 2, 2008.
